Design System: Global Styling

Is the plan to have global styling available to use with Design System?
eg. update all main elements and it updates across the board in all modules. See attached example

This is available via Visual Page Builder in Siteglide Studio - studio.siteglide.com

Matt Walter: How does this work in Visual Page Builder? Is there a document or video explaining how to change element colours etc?

Barbara Pearn: Currently these are editable via the custom_variables.scss file in code editor. We are working torwards making a UI for these variables though with color pickers and font size pickers. This way you can visually see your changes and then it will update the Sass files for you

Dean Vizer: Thank you. That would be the best solution.

Urszula Richards - DS uses a core variables file to store stuff like H2 size, and font color. We plan to show these all in a UI, with things like color pickers. Is that what you mean?

Matt Walter: yes - to clarify - this will only work if we have design system installed I am presuming. This is a consideration when migrating sites - it may be better to rebuild (and have access to design system) than a straight 'migration'. Am I understanding that correctly?

Urszula Richards: just jumping in here we will be enhancing DS more and more meaning it is hopefully worth a rebuild rather than a straight migration and I do believe it can actually be quicker anyway. We want to get Starter Site and even Design System to a point where you just customise it which does the heavy lifting for you and reduces the technical knowledge/skills required. Then knowing you can install modules with layouts that work out of the box, are best practice/optimised and can easily update global styles etc should really make it stand out compared to the traditional approach of migrating code, using templates or starting from scratch. I hope this makes sense.
