Ecommerce - New "Unit Type" Field
It's typically necessary to specify a "unit type" along with a price to give it context. Prices are per: pound, dozen, six pack, 190mL jar, bunch, pallet, etc. While you can create a custom field set (and painstakingly attach them 1-by-1 to products) it seems to be making something essential to product pricing an option requiring a good deal more effort.
Could we please add a unit type field to products?

We're currently planning to open up Modules to allow you to add Custom Fields to all of them. https://roadmap.siteglide.com/feature-requests/p/modules-custom-field-sets
Products however, already have Custom Field Sets for this purpose. https://help.siteglide.com/en/articles/3504819-custom-field-sets
You could use this to add a Unit Type Custom Field on your Site- the benefit of this would be that you could decide which options to add as a dropdown for a specific Site? You could also use Attributes to allow Users to select different pack sizes for a single Product and the price could adjust accordingly.
Is there a benefit to having a global field for all eCommerce Sites .e.g should it modify the way an existing feature works, or do you agree it should be custom for each partner/ Site?

As stated above, I fully recognize that custom field sets can be used in this way. What I am suggesting is that a "unit type" field is an essential - not a nice to have. A price, by itself, is meaningless in many, if not most, instances. The only instance it works is when the unit price is "each."
You surely realize that just to create a custom field set and apply it to all products requires a significant amount of manual work - depending on the number of products - say 100 or 1000 or 10000.
Please correct me if I'm wrong about this.
To the best of my knowledge, there is no way to apply a custom field set to all products without opening every single product and manually "attaching" that custom field set. Furthermore, like Attributes, there is (currently) no way to populate those custom fields via import, meaning one has to connect the sets AND populate all these fields manually!
While I hate pointing back at BC, they got this one right. (Webflow also lets you attach custom fields and populate them easily.) For something this key - a pricing "unit type qualifier" - I think it's wrong to expect that partners and their clients will be OK with all that extra work for even the simplest of eCommerce sites.
That said, if there WAS a way to easily apply CFS's to all products AND there was a way to upload this data into place, I would not be writing you. In fact, the work would already be done.
I hope that helps clarify my feature request.

Bruce Dunnan: Thanks Bruce, this is really helpful.
The reason for clarifying is that we could have ended up adding a field here, but not addressing the root issue of difficulties quickly adding custom fields to all your Products at once.
As we open up Custom Field Sets to more Modules it's a perfect opportunity to re-visit them, taking on board your feedback and making it easier to add new fields to the entire Module- instead of a single item.
