Module Updates - impact on code

One of my sites menu changed after I updated the module. Response from my dev after I queried menu dropdown disappearing.
"There's definitely an issue in menu upgrade as i checked my local file for Jim's Trim and menu layout was changed back to default."

    On all Modules we have a process in place to ignore some files when updating the Module. Unfortunately this process had been missed on the Menu Module.

    This has now been resolved.

    It only affected built-in layouts - not custom ones.

    Urszula Richards - Do you happen to know the file you were using? Was it default.liquid?

    I'm applying a patch now to protect that file from updates, as we do in other Modules.

      Matt Walter: I checked with dev and he had created a custom layout, which was then over-ridden when module was updated
